Deal with the channel, not just the drip
Valley lining exposed
We open enough of the area to inspect the material beneath the coverings.
Water flow protected
Reinstated slate or tile edges leave a clear route for rainwater drainage.
Leadwork capability included
We can assess deterioration in lead valleys, flashing and related joints.
Repair the roof's busiest water channel
A valley carries concentrated rainwater where two roof slopes meet. Cracks, displaced materials or failed joints can therefore release a surprising amount of water into the roof. We investigate a leaking roof valley in Newtownabbey by opening the affected area far enough to inspect the lining, support, underlay and edges of the adjoining slates or tiles. Defects may sit in leadwork, flashing, joints or the surrounding covering. Finding the actual failure matters because sealing the first visible mark rarely helps if water is entering higher up the channel.

Keep the drainage route clear and sound
Once we've exposed the relevant section, we repair or renew the defective valley material and deal with damaged support where required. Surrounding slates or tiles are then reinstated carefully so they protect the edges without blocking the path of rainwater. The valley material, roof pitch, channel length and expected flow all affect the right approach. Access also matters because the work often sits between two slopes rather than near an easy roof edge. We can arrange our own scaffolding and provide photographs of details that are normally hidden once the covering goes back.
Frequently asked questions
Why can a small valley defect cause a large leak?
Roof valleys collect water from two slopes and direct it through one channel. A crack or failed joint can therefore receive far more rain than an ordinary section of covering, especially during heavy weather.
Do nearby tiles or slates need to be removed?
Some surrounding coverings may need careful lifting so we can inspect the lining, underlay and support below. We open only the area required for a sound repair, then reinstate the roof around the channel.
Can a leaking roof valley be patched?
A focused repair may be suitable for a local defect where the remaining valley is sound. Longer cracks, failed joints or widespread deterioration may require renewal of a larger section. Inspection determines the practical option.
